Field Mission 3: Brushing the Sun, Part 1
![]()
![]() 1. FIRST, YOU DRAW A CIRCLE![]() A. IT'S TIME TO GET TO WORK That certainly isn't to say that your previous efforts have not been hard work. But one half of this mission has been fine tuned, a logistical machine of well-oiled cogs, the creative efforts of a man who has so much to make up for. After the three-hour journey across the sky, you and the three other Reclaimers you boarded the glass orb with will be deposited right in the dead center of Maru, where the Bureau has set up a small camp for gathering, sorting, and sending off supplies. It's chilly, but not unbearably so. The air is thin, but up here, it's probably the cleanest you've breathed anywhere else in Faerun — new and old Reclaimers alike. Whatever goal you decide to work toward during your stay here, after a quick rundown of how supply gathering will work (it's pretty simple: You bring supplies, the unnamed Bureau members assigned to the base will send them off), you're turned loose to the gnarling wilds of the floating continent. Because, as the header says, it's time to get to work. And you most certainly haven't gone unnoticed. 2. USE YOUR PATH ACTIONS WISELYB. ROWDY RUMBLE Those of you who aren't quite combat ready might be getting something of an instant crash course in the art of a hostile encounter — though, perhaps in a bit of a lucky streak, goblins, like the pack of three of them that are leading the charge here, are, uh. Well, they're morons. But these particular three see a bunch of humanoids flying in on what are very clearly cursed globes, and they see a bunch of humanoids wandering the lands and attempting to cash in on their treasure. They were here first, you know! Even if they don't entirely understand why the mine they were here first in isn't exactly on the ground anymore. Or where exactly they are to begin with now. Or ... well, frankly, nothing about any of this makes any sense. Whether you're back at the base at the center of Maru, or whether you're out in the fields, toeing at the ground for hints of treasure underneath, you, and whoever you happen to be traveling with, will be approached by a rather bold trio. And whatever treasure you may have on your person? They're rather keen on taking it. What will you do? Fight? Try to reason with them? For those of you with the combat experience, there are, of course, much bigger fish to fry. Take a look at the YOLO's guide to monsters for a full list of the hostile critters you can challenge to a wrestle during your stay on Maru. ![]() You've probably heard the rumors by now — the fact that nobody seems interested in going to the small lake and waterfall on Maru once nighttime rolls around. Seems pretty silly, right? Superstitious, even. It's a rather beautiful patch of the floating continent, and if your previous expeditions digging through the ground are any indicator, there's a wealth of valuable items to be had underneath the surface. Hubris might lead you to camping out near the water's edge, for just one evening. And sometime around midnight, provided that same hubris hasn't put you to sleep, the light of your campfire, or the light of the moon, suddenly extinguishes. It's like being wrapped up in a cloak of vantablack, in very nearly every single sense, not just sight. No rustling of leaves, no sound of the wind passing through every nook and cranny of the continent. No light. No nothing. If you decide to book it out of there, be careful, lest you accidentally wander into the lake, without a clear sense of where exactly the exit is. But if you choose to hold steady, after about an hour, the silence and darkness clears — and the scenery returns to normal, as if nothing happened. Something did happen, however. Whether you stayed there for just a moment, you sat through it, or you slept through it, if you were anywhere near the lake at midnight, you'll be subject to a nightly enchantment coming from an unknown source. You may pick one of the following: ○ The next time you are asked a question, whether it's what you had for dinner or whether you're all right, you will be magically forced to answer it truthfully. The effect wears off after one question. 3. MINE CART MADNESSD. I'M ABOUT TO LOSE MY MINE, UP IN HERE, UP IN HERE. Eventually, you'll probably find yourself down in the mine's labyrinthine system of tunnels and networks that seem to sprawl out in nearly endless directions. Be careful when you turn corners, as there may be an Umber Hulk or a Basilisk waiting for you in the darkness, but as you look down, you do notice tracks that head in nearly every direction. Whoever had initially excavated this area was quite laborious and thorough with the pathing down in its deepest delves. One turn leans to another long corridor, and maybe another turn leads you back in a circle. Mining equipment can be found almost everywhere, left to rust and decay with the passage of time that could only indicate hundreds of years of being completely unbothered. You step forward, and look to see a path that carves out into four directions- straight, left, right, and back. And you quickly realize something doesn't feel right. That's true- as you begin to step forward and take a path, you find yourself back to where you started after walking for a little while. Turn back, and you might notice that you're in the exact place you just were as well. Maybe you brought some chalk with you, or maybe you managed to drop something here like a breadcrumb trail to tell you which way you've already headed. Or maybe you don't even notice it until you've been walking for hours, but you're stuck in a loop. Of those four directions, you'll notice something peculiar if you start to take notice. ○ One direction will always lead you back to where you started. ![]() Mind boggling puzzles aside, you're welcome to explore the depths of the Lost Mine of Phandelver. One of the more ridiculous, albeit, fun adventures you can take is a mine cart ride through the mine down to the farthest reaches. It starts off relatively bumpy and doesn't seem to smooth out at any given point, but it's the closest thing you're going to get to a roller coaster ride down here in Faerun. Reaching the end is a matter of waiting the cruise- and you eventually come to a dead end. There's stuff you can mine down here as it empties out into a vast, damp cavern. Iron, several types of cheap gemstones, and rocks can be found pretty much anywhere. If you're looking to rebuild Vista Virs, this is a good place to start. If you're looking to make a little cash on the side, that's possible too. We're not here to judge your moral intentions. Getting back isn't as fun as it was coming down here, as you're pretty much stuck pushing the cart back to where it was if you want to take things out. Don't worry about the logistics too much; there always seems to be a cart available for you to descend, and oddly enough, it never feels like it's the same journey down and back twice in a row. F. BEEN HERE ALL NIGHT. BEEN HERE ALL DAY. There are a few notable places to explore while you're down in Phandelver: ○ An administrative office, complete with desks that haven't been touched in years. Several papers are still there, with dates that go far and wide back into the past. Touching them causes it to disintegrate into dust. For anyone who makes it down there, there is a lockbox to be found that can be opened by smashing it on the ground or attempting to unlock it with thieves' tools. While the contents are up to you to decide, nothing in there should be magical beyond a simple potion of healing, aged... several centuries. 4. WILDCARDThe floating continent of Maru is your world to explore, and your story to write! You may use any of the prompts we've given you here, or you may come up with your own prompts — you can utilize any part of the setting provided in the OOC post. If you'd like the outcome of a particular thread randomized, or if you'd like to investigate a particular part of the setting, feel free to drop a note in the RNG thread and we'll set up a roll for you. As always, be amazing. You're two for two on reclaiming Grand Relics, and we can't wait to see what you do here. blurb code by photosynthesis |

Re: RNG
Additionally, will Rustic Hospitality work on gerblins? Is that something that can be added to the "Wash drops by every day with an onion for them" bit? (And it will indeed be Every Day, because consistency is key for things like this.)

ETA: Also, McCree wants to look at those papers in the administrator's office. After picking up one to have it crumble to dust, he'll lean over the rest and not breathe on them, trying to read them where they lie. Anything interesting there?

WHAT BARRY BLUEJEANS KNOWS
no subject
First of all, she will approach with a gesture of some of the magic chocochip cookies (because... of course she packed some...) since she figures anyone would like a nice treat after being stuck on this island for so long. She will also compliment his impeccable jeans.
If he's amenable to this approach, she'll give a vague explanation that they're here to figure out why the heck Maru is floating, and ask what he knows about the Lost Mine of Phandelver!

i[This has not been the easiest task.
Roxas doesn't usually do resource collecting. Or at least, what collecting he's done in the past has been easy enough, usually found dropped by enemies or in a conveniently placed treasure chest. So mining is something he hasn't really had to do. It's kind of scary to descend down into the mines and he's got his guard up for enemies, especially since it seems he has to go deep for what he's looking for.
But he strikes a rich vein and is able to find diamonds. So you might be able to hear his shouts of excitement echoing up from the cave he's in]
ii - [Of course, while he's down here, Roxas is taking the time to explore. He can't ignore a weird sense of nostalgia for being in a mine, but he's also pretty sure he's never been in one before so he's trying not to focus on that feeling. Not that he's able to for long, as he soon comes across a door in a place that doors usually aren't. Which brings back a different sort of nostalgia. Dread. But it doesn't look like that door, and so Roxas goes to open it.
The lock doesn't resist too hard to a few strikes from a pickaxe, but it seems the lock was also the only thing holding the door closed and a whole bunch of papers comes spilling out shortly after.]
Fantasy Costco? Really?
H-how?
iii - [The price of success is a heavy one it seems. Literally in this case. Roxas has a minecart full of diamond, and some papers, that he's gamely trying to push up the track. It's slow going though, and he looks like he could use some help.
Please don't steal his diamonds though. They're for the Bureau.]
[ B - Is Any of this Real or Not? ]
[When he's not in the mine or helping to explore, Roxas finds himself drawn to the lake and the waterfall. It seems to be where he goes for downtime, and that's where he is this evening. He sits on the shore, staring out into the lake and trying not to focus on the memories of a promise to go to the beach. It's not quite the same, but the meeting of sky and shore and water is enough to bring it into focus.
It's times like these that he misses Axel. A lot. But it also brings to mind questions of Sora. Either way, Roxas looks thoughtful, and might be compelled to offer some of those thoughts if someone offers him a penny.]
You can really see the stars from up here.
[ C - Beetle Battle]
[Well, it wouldn't be a mission without some sort of creature to fight, and right now Roxas is mixing it up with some Fire Beetles. He seems to be doing pretty well, and maybe looks pretty cool with his dual wield of sword and keyblade, which is really starting to gain some finesse.
Or he's at it with a spear, which is a bit more unwieldily but he's managing with the basics. At least until one lands a lucky hit and he jumps back with a wince.]
Ouch!

jesse mccree
It's a scenic place, and he really can't recall the last time he was somewhere that looked so lush and green. He takes it all in, but stays mindful that they're here to find out just what's going on here and secure the Grand Relic that's causing this. Spotting a fellow Reclaimer, McCree tips his hat in greeting.
"Hello, there. Doing some searching out here too? Figured we could find some supplies or better yet, figure out how we're floating up here. Wanna team up?"
{ basilisk adventures for maya}
"We're starting to make a habit of exploring dark, underground places together, aren't we?" He asks it with a crooked grin as he and Maya traverse the depths of the mine. The tracks are easy enough to follow, but something about this place doesn't seem quite right, other than the fact they're on a giant floating island, of course. They should be running into whomever made these tracks, but McCree swears they've been this way before and they haven't seen a soul yet. These aren't their tracks, so who's are they?
{ aftermath of the basilisk for hibiki }
It's an experience McCree doesn't ever want to repeat: being trapped in his own body, swallowed by darkness, but still able to hear Maya talking. He can't just shake it off, and once he's back to normal and in a somewhat safer place, he leans against a wall, breathing heavily. It's not a panic attack, but his body sure is reacting to what just happened to him. Here's hoping no one catches him in this sorry state.
{ i'm about to lose my mine, up in here, up in here (open to all) }
This is getting frustrating. McCree is a ranger and he has decent tracking skills, but all it's telling him is that he's walking in circles. How's he meant to find anyone to question if he can't find any of the dwarves that are missing, in hiding, whatever they are? He turns a corner and digs an X in the dirt with his boot before walking on, swearing he's seen these exact rock walls before. He notices the tiny fire beetles and takes it as a good sign. If there are signs of life here, then surely he'll run into a person sooner or later, right?
And suddenly he's back at the entrance again. Shoulders slumping, he nods to the person standing there.
"First time here or did you get turned around too?"
{ been here all night. been here all day. (open to all) }
The office seems as good a place as any to search out any clues as to what's going on here. Obviously the mine was abandoned long ago and the Rockseekers came to start operations again, but with three of them recently disappearing, McCree wonders if they'll find any clues in here. After all, it's a floating island. They have to still be here somewhere, unless they fell off. Maybe they found their way in here and read something that made them bolt.
Once he's come up empty there, McCree manages to find a storeroom and once he gets the cap off of a bottle, he realizes that it's aged whiskey. He's a man of simple tastes, and a good whiskey is all he really needs in life. Well, that and cigarettes. So he sits back and takes a swig straight from the bottle. It's his now; get your own. But no, he'll point out the many bottles stored here and take a load off with you for a little while to recap what you've learned so far.

[At least it's not sandworms.
That's what Shinjiro finds himself thinking when he encounters the local wildlife, as it were, on Maru. The Fire Beetles are harmless and thus generally ignored, regardless of any use for their illumination abilities, but the others...are annoying to deal with, in the most charitable way to put it.
Perhaps you and Shinjiro happened to be digging for resources together when a monster found you, or maybe he was passing through when he heard some manner of screaming or cry for help and he followed it--or hell, maybe you're even the one to help him. Regardless of how the encounter began, there's a creature (maybe even two) breathing down your necks, and Shinjiro's definitely just closed his his to defend against locking gazes with it.]
These things are a pain in the ass!
ii. it caught on in a flash
[For all Shinjiro is willing to fight the monsters, however, it doesn't mean he wants to. Especially in the case of the basilisks--getting turned to stone just seems like a really bad time? Like, probably top ten most obnoxious ways to die.
So if you happen to be exploring in a particularly basilisk-infested area, there's a chance you might stumble on an extremely rare sight: Shinjiro walking around with his Persona summoned--a giant shiny one-legged impaled horse monster. He's largely avoided summoning it for the past few months, but there's few ways of handling a surprise basilisk that doesn't involve some kind of obnoxious mirror bullshit, so he's going for the next best thing: a piece of his soul that can't get turned to stone. Should he spot you, however, he won't turn you away. Instead, he'll call out--]
Coast's clear for now. You see Castor here wig out, and that's your cue to get outta here too, alright? ...And don't stand so close to me.
iii. famous last words [ lakeside ]
[After his first experience with the lake, Shinjiro's less than keen on going back there for camping. However, it's a very small island, and there are so many monsters. So it might be that he was coincidentally nearby when somebody hit the pause on the whole evening before everything. And the following morning--the following morning is weird, because no matter he tries to say or thinks he said, he winds up saying something else from a certain night instead.]
You don't...have to give up your hatred right away. Let your anger be your strength.
iv. unhappy working song [ mines ]
[So at some point, of course, Shinjiro came to investigate the mines. The loop wasn't immediately noticed, of course, until he got the sense that he had seen a particular patch of dead beetles before. So he starts marking out his path by using his axe to make scratches in the walls.
....Only. At some point he stops to find that he's made scratch marks going both ahead of and behind him, which is just next to physically impossible, and he throws down his axe in disgust.]
You've got to be kiddin' me.
v. wildcard

[Oh he likes this. It's a base of operations, out in the wilderness...it reminds Dwyer a little of home, really. Even if "home" was technically a small bubble in the astral plane that his mother could alter and reshape as she saw fit. Mainly, the concept of a camp with things to do is just. So very familiar and reassuring to him, that it seems like he fits into the hustle and bustle with ease.
Is there like. Anyplace he can help cook stuff for everyone? If there is, he's there, for whatever times he's lingering at the camp, so if you want to chat with him about whatever, here's the place.]
B: *sigh* If you insist...
I don't have anything. Please go away.
[It's said with all the tired, flat intonation that can only come from Dwyer, but the three gerblins that have surrounded him don't seem keen on believing him. They jeer and point fingers, accusing him of stealing their treasure, even as he turns out his coat pockets. He's got nothing in them. (Anything of actual importance isn't kept in such easily accessible pockets, after all.)]
What would you guys even use all this supposed treasure for? It's not like you can sell it to anyone on the ground...
[He seems to be taking the "talk some sense into these idiots" route, but the more they cajole him, the more likely he is to actually fight them. Do you want to stay and watch, or will you help a Reclaimer out?]
E: It'd probably hurt pretty bad if you held some ore while you punched a guy, right?
[Ah, now this too is familiar - just like the Nohrian mine back home. What was it that they managed to pull from the earth there? Was it rubies? Dwyer thinks it might've been rubies. The spring had jade, the mine had rubies - materials somehow essential for enhancing yumi and lances respectively. He has no idea if the same principle applies in Faerun, but at least he knows what he's doing. Carefully, with one of the rusted pickaxes, he digs with a fair amount of care and caution, setting the gems and things he finds aside so he can gather them up and put them in his mine cart for later. There is a point where he hits upon a vein of aquamarine, and he spends a long while just staring at one of the stones before pocketing it for himself.
What? This is for his holy symbol, don't judge. It's pretty. Shush.]
F: This isn't my job...
[Oh. Oh, this is...wow. It's really hitting home that this was once a prosperous and bustling mine, just from the abandoned offices, but the skeletons that are decidedly not magical really puts it into perspective. Since this place couldn't have been floating in the air long enough for all these bodies to just turn to dust...could they be much, much older? It's kind of sad.
He wonders, idly, if anyone had ever given the bodies their last rites. He wonders if it's something the other Clerics might want to do, if he presents the idea. After all, they are all profiting from what the dead left behind, they might as well thank them.]
press f to pay respects
Along those lines, he has found a bottle of that 300-year-old whiskey, and is wandering back in the direction he came, working on the cork. It comes out of the bottle with a pop right when he's passing Dwyer.]
Want some? It's not bad.

a. the red text flavor
[this is weirdly not the first time that Dave has been inexplicably caught up in some magic sort of bubble at a presumable midnight, and imbued with the magic to run through all of his previous dialogue options up until this point.]
[the meowing's a little weird, but even then. so maybe by the time the moonlight returns, and by the time the sun rises and you happen to locate him, he isn't looking particularly perturbed by the fact that the first thing that falls out of his mouth in greeting is:]
You probably shouldn't pick fights with the person scooping your shit.
[im 17 and this is deep. that's also apparently a thought that actually occurred to him at one point.]
b. the completely panicked flavor
[well, more like cheesed off. he's not even TRYING to ask at this point what the old abandoned shack has to do with Fantasy Costco, why it seems like whoever was living there was somehow responsible for the jingle, but ever since he and Kaede found a music box there that played the tune, it's been beating in the sides of his head nonstop, completely tortuously.]
[by day two and counting, Dave's got a much bigger (to him) problem on his hands than a chorus he can't stave off, and it's enough for him to find the strength within to tap on whoever happens to be nearby's shoulder and just.]
Hey. I need help with something.
[yup, just straight up ask for help. please save him from the music!!]
Gimme something that rhymes. Literally anything, I don't care at this point. [if he accidentally blurts out one more rhyme about all your dreams coming true, one more recommendation to shop at Fantasy Costco, he is going to actually completely fly off the handle.]
ii. let him do a paladin protect
[or maybe you're both caught by a brave trio of goblins who seem to have decided the two of you have something valuable on your hands. specifically, the awfully shiny shades on Dave's face. or maybe it's something you happen to have in your possession.]
Oh, hell no.
[You + Dave: STRIFE. this really isn't much of a fair matchup; these things are probably no different than the hordes of imps he fought in a video game come to life back home, but ... come on, dude. nobody threatens the shades — the shades that once sat on Ben Stiller's sort of gaunt face.]
[pretty much the only valuable possession he has left from his own dimension.]
[anyway, first move is on you!]
iii. wildmaru
[Dave is going to be buzzing around the entirety of Maru, but more specifically, involving himself in the following shenanigans and/or jams:
- getting lost in the mines
- trying to climb the mountain, perhaps against better judgment
- realizing he needs to do work instead of getting into shenanigans, and helping gather supplies to rebuild Vista Virs
- trying to catch a fire beetle
- making sure the people he cares about aren't murdered by the local fauna. want him to try to save you from a direbear, giant bug or murdertree? this is your prompt!
i'm also game for literally anything else! hit me up.]

It's rare that they ever feel the need to escape a conversation, especially if Will was one of the participants, but today definitely pushed them past their comfort zone. So they'd found some excuse - any excuse, it wasn't that important - to appease the others and left, trying not to look too frazzled as they set out awandering. After all, that would only get them followed, wouldn't it? Can't have that.
Which lead here, to the edge of Maru, with nothing but the endless expanse below for for company. It's almost like home, really. ]

( Franziska von Karma is not quite as ready as she would like for her first adventure, but at least she is more appropriately dressed for the part than she had been upon her first arrival. Wearing a sturdy pair of comfortable boots, black pants, a black jacket and her usual brooch, she is ready to explore!
Her trusty whip, of course, is forever by her side.
Yes, she looks more ready to ride a horse than anything else, but details.
While she's hoping to avoid any major battles with any of the more ... frightening monsters she's heard about during her time here, she is more than confident in her abilities to take on the goblins, regardless of if she has company or not!
She can be seen approaching the hapless goblins with her chest puffed up, as though she intends on simply bulldozing them into telling her everything she needs to know, and if negotiations turn sour, well, that's what the whip is for.
Maybe you might want to intercede before Franziska cracks her whip at some hapless goblins? Or just generally help her with her investigation? )
( C )
( Franziska is not the type of woman to be disturbed by things that go bump in the night, and rumours? Rumours are unlikely to deter her either. It is these characteristics that lead her to camp on the edge of the lake at the night, and enter a deep and restful slumber to boot!
At least, it is restful until Franziska wakes up when the sun rises the next morning and feels that something is... very, very wrong.
And once she realises what that something is, anyone within hearing distance is going to have their peaceful morning pierced by a shrill shout: )
WHOEVER DID THIS TO ME, FIX. IT. AT. ONCE.
( She's hopping out of her bedroll, still in her sleeping gear - simple black thermals - which she is now swimming in, because she is now all of 2'7" tall. Yes, you read that right.
She's short.
Help her??? )
( WILDCARD )
( Want to explore the grotto or the mine together? Go hassle Bread? Generally check in with Franziska and see how she's going? I'm down for anything and everything! Hit me up on Plurk @

[Is it any surprise that Sayori is drawn to the lovely, fairytale-esque scenery of the grotto? Especially given the way her nerves tangle up in her gut when she thinks about Komaeda's words. She tries to bury them and stick to her usual straightforward approach to adventure, but it is reassuring to come upon a place that looks so fun! And safe!
Sayori can often be found climbing on the huge mushrooms and wedged into the little nooks like a regular Alice in Wonderland. Except Sayori is probably having more fun. Occasionally she also opens up her journal to jot down her inspired thoughts.
However, you may also catch her surreptitiously breaking off a small piece of one of the mushroom's caps to taste it. And subsequently frowning in deep betrayal at the horrible texture.
...And then taking another bite anyway.]
♥ 2 - be mine! ♥ (various)
[The mine is very creepy. This is when the nerves really start to sink in, the horrible feeling that she's out of her element and totally useless. She keeps those thoughts to herself, of course. Everyone has been so nice to her; she doesn't want them to feel like their efforts in helping her were for nothing. So, she covers it up with idle chatter.] Doesn't it feel like we'll run into a ghost or something? Abandoned places are always haunted! [And:] Hehe, it echoes a lot down here, doesn't it?
A (OTA) - [Or:] Hey, have we been here before?
[Oh, wait, that last part isn't idle chatter. These four paths do seem to be repeating, don't they? Sayori's eyebrows furrow as she turns to look behind her, as if the path they've already walked will reveal the answer.] ...it looks the same.
B (OTA) - [Or:] Hey, what's in here?
[As they wander into a storeroom, populated with a lot of...bottles? It makes her think of her poem! But these bottles probably aren't filled with happy thoughts.
She takes one down off the rack, regarding it with some curiosity. Without heeding any potential warning, she pops it open and sniffs the bottle--and recoils with sharp surprise.] Whoa! That's strong!
C (closed to Shinjiro) - [Or perhaps, once she's found her way to the quarry, a simple:] Whooooa.
[That's a big drill.
And...a big drop. As much as she wants to get closer to investigate the drill, it seems really dangerous. So she tries to be careful as she climbs around the quarry and pokes around the rocks.
Careful does not mean quiet, though, as hard as she tries. It might be hard to pick up on the sounds of footsteps that don't belong to Sayori or Shinjiro--at least if you're not used to keeping an eye out for danger.]
♥ 3 - a lovely lake! ♥ (OTA)
[The first time Sayori comes by the lake is in broad daylight, when it looks sparkling and inviting rather than creepy and mysterious. She stands by the shore, regarding it with a bit of a pout. Eventually, she speaks up, lamenting.] I didn't buy a swimsuit!
[Tragic.
Or, you may find her later, simply using the water to clean up--face, clothes, shield... They're all getting pretty gross. Whether she washes up well is another matter, but it's fine, probably.]
♥ 4 - wildcard! ♥ (OTA)
[Being that this is Sayori's first mission, she's doing all kinds of things in the hopes of not being a total failure of a Reclaimer. Back at camp, she's:
- Writing poetry. Obviously.
- Making conversation! She may ask what you've found and how you're feeling.
- Practicing her magic, mostly flexing with the various effects of Prestidigitation. The smell of flowers, the sound of crickets, the sight of a few dissipating sparks as if they've fallen from a firework. These and other such pleasant and relaxing sensory effects can be experienced by Sayori's bedroll and the general vicinity while she practises. She'll even take requests! If you've come into some filth, she can at least make your clothes look nicer. Or if you've experienced some greater misfortune, she will gladly give you a Healing Word.
- Very rarely, simply staring into the distance contemplatively. Usually when she thinks nobody is paying her much mind.

[ Minato has a flawless strategy for dealing with these bears. It's called Sleep. While Minato is picking up resources out in the wild, Orpheus is strumming on his lyre. Sometimes they switch, with Minato on violin while Orpheus gathers things. One could argue that this might be attracting the bears in the first place, but when one of them sees movement, they're quick with the spell!
Apologies if they hit you with it. Minato will wake up any Reclaimers he's hastily put to bed. The blue haired teen will be hovering over you when you awaken. ]
Sorry... Want some chips?
2.
[ After spending one night by the lake, it's become Minato's favorite spot. There's something relaxing about the deprivation that the midnight darkness imposes. He may have joined you on this most recent foray, or maybe you stumble upon him camping out alone. Either way, he's sitting on his bedroll near the campfire as he stares out into the lake. If you choose to get his attention he'll invite you to sit with him with a gesture of his arm. ]
It's almost midnight.
[ Though his expression is neutral, he seems almost excited about this. ]
3.
[ Don't want to camp? You can find after he's spent a night by the lake. Let me know in the tag if there's an effect you'd like him to be afflicted with when they meet, otherwise I'll roll to see which one he has. Note that at 5ft 6in tall, half height will put him about 2ft 8in. ]
Wildcard
[ His main focus is gathering resources for the moon base and Vista Virs. He'll be in the mines a lot doing heavy labor to the best of his abilities, but he's also wandering the surface and enjoying the lakeside far too much.

[Izuku's in trouble. He sort of stumbled onto a Goblin horde and started investigating all of their treasure. Not to steal just to look! If there's a place that's all locked up, you have to go see what it is, don't you? That's just natural.
No, he's just a little nosey fuck.
Which is why he's currently strung upside down by his foot in some sort of trap like a total dumbass who forgot how dulled his reflexes are here while the goblins poke at him with a long stick.]
Hey, can't we talk this out, I really wasn't here to steal anything I swear!
[H E L P]
ii. Gonna lose my mine (the weird room).
[Remember how curiosity got his ass in trouble with the goblins, GUESS WHO LITERALLY LEARNED NOTHING. He's found a strange room in the middle of the mines that gives him a funny chill when he enters it.
That has to mean something right?
He reaches out to touch the chest when a screaming fills his ears. He cries out and covers them in an attempt to muffle out the sound that's so loud that it feels like it's tearing his head apart. He stumbles out of the room and collapses onto the his knees, dry heaving a little.
Then he notices there's blood dripping from his ears.]
Do not go in there.
[He gasps to anyone who happens to be in the area. It takes him a good 20 minutes to recover.]
iii. Deku vs the Whomping Willow
[You fools thought he'd learned his lesson about messing with things.
N O P E.
So when he finds this strange tree that's 1. aggressive 2. protecting something, he's got to figure out what that's all about. He's clearly tried to approach it as he has a cut on his cheek and one on his arm.
But he's dropped into a crouch as he writes into a notebook, muttering furiously to himself. On the pages are a diagram of the willow and notes about how he's approached it.]
It doesn't seem to have any blind spots. Even when I tried to create a distraction further away, it could still attack me. But there has to be a limit right? It only has so many branches. So if you could create a big enough diversion, it might be possible for one person to reach the base.

-TRYING TO LEARN THE VIOLIN. He's playing some really basic songs. So be prepared to hear songs like this over and over again until maybe you yell at him.
-Hanging out in the mines cuz there's stuff down there!
-Fighting off some goblins with his bare hands!
ANYTHING. Hit me up at
Barking up the wrong tree
[Speaking of which...]
[He approaches Deku from behind, as silently as anyone can in full power armor, and hovers over his shoulder for a few seconds - long enough to hear what he's muttering about and see the diagram in the notebook.]
Nope!
[Which is all the warning Deku gets before Wash makes a grab for the back of Deku's shirt collar with every intention of bodily dragging him away from the murder tree. How about we not die today?]

[When Kenpachi heard the rumors about the lake being dangerous at night, Kenpachi had hoped for some sort of monster to fight. Dissapointingly, nothing had happened. Or at least, as far as he can tell. So it's the next morning, and he's using Nozarashi to cut down some trees, cutting off the branches for firewood, hefting a sturdy looking trunk for lumber to send back to base.
A normal productive activity. Which is strange for Kenpachi. Even stranger, though, is the fact that if you cross his path or speak to him, his response is an animalistic growl, like some sort of big cat. Maybe a puma?]
[D- Extremely Lost]
[Kenpachi went down into the mines in the morning, one day.
Hours later, he's still stuck. He has no idea that he's stuck in a loop. This is a man who's a world champion at having no sense of direction. As far as he's concerned, this is just a particularly circuitous and uneventful part of the mines. When you get to be more than a hundred years old, hours of wandering in the dark aren't that bad. He even jumped into the pool of water the one time he happened to run into it, because why not.
So you might hear the sound of sodden sandals against the rock come up behind you as Kenpachi trots along.]
This place really ain't got much of anything interesting in it, I think.
[And he walks by..... and then comes back up from where he first appears. He almost doesn't stop, almost walks by again. But then.... he just saw this person. He stops, frowns at the familiar face, gears slowly turning in his head. Maybe help him out? He looks like he's been here for ages, based on the amount of dust and grime on him.]
[F- Suspicious Liquid]
[Later, once the terrible magic labyrinth has been bested, Kenpachi is rewarded for his patience by the discovery of some very old alcohol. He's sat right down on the floor, completely content in a way one really should be drinking out of unmarked barrels in the cold and grimy darkness.
But he's a simple man with simple desires. He gestures at you;]
Hey, c'mere and try this stuff. Ain't never had anything like this before.
[He hasn't keeled over yet, so probably it's not toxic? Then again, this is Kenpachi, so... who knows.]

[Obviously... there's something going on or around the lake. Ferran has played enough video games to want to investigate the waterfall first; although he's a decent swimmer, he'd rather not risk getting caught by something in the lake to start with.
(And although he is curious about whatever might be there at night, he's not quite reckless enough to just go there and sit around in plain sight, waiting for something to happen. Yet.)
So they're there shortly before noon, when the sun is high in the sky and they'll have more time to dry off if they do have to get wet. They have a little bit of walking to do to get closer to the waterfall, but it'll give Ferran some extra time to practice the frost spell. He turns to Hibiki after adjusting his gloves, eyebrows raised.]
What do you think is hiding here?
b: questionable crunch
[Ferran is looking suspiciously in the direction of a certain mountain, a furrow in his brow and a hand to his chin.
He also has his pack slung over his shoulder.
He is also walking in that direction.
So, you know, if someone is looking to also check out a mountain, or stop a boy from checking out a mountain, this is the chance! It could even be a chance for something else, too—his thoughtful pose drops as he holds his hand in front of him, and in a flash of red light... a granola bar appears. (It's a very sparkly process, suited to his previous role as a magical boy.)
Nonchalant, Ferran takes a bite. Floating mountains are very mysterious... he has to wonder what kind of thing is keeping it all together if it's not just a relic itself, and how gravity does or doesn't work within certain parts of the island. There are definitely some questions he wants to answer.]
c: caves might be safer than a paper mountain. (closed to maya)
[Ferran probably became aware of these caves by hiding in them from goblins.
Look, it's not like he's that scared of them or anything—he could probably punt one of them if he really tried—but running is just simpler than confrontation that they might remember and might come back to bite him later.
Also they're creepy, what the hell, he didn't know he was signing up for this. Why can't everything just be mostly-human or rock-monster?? It's so much easier when your allies are nice normal looking people and your enemies are crystal things made of darkness and whatever.
Anyway.
With how many hidden things are shoved into this one piece of floating land, there could be any number of useful treasures or other things hiding in these little crevices. Maybe even a clue to a certain important magical item. Who knows!
He knows a little better than to go out looking for things on his own where he could fall or something, so he's asked a more experienced Reclaimer to come along. Probably more experienced. It'll be fine.]
It feels like this place could be its own goldmine...

Right? We should dig up some gemstones while we're here! You know, for the economy.
[ what she means is her economy specifically, and that ferran should dig. ]
[ at least she's cheerful? ]
I wonder what other treasure is around....

Zelda was nervous for the entire three hour journey from the Moon Base to the surface of Maru. It wasn't the trip itself in the glass orb that worried her; if anything, traveling from the heavens down through the clouds was a breathtaking marvel. But it wasn't enough to distract her from the feeling that she wasn't cut out to be a Reclaimer. Maru was a wild and largely uninhabited place, thick with monsters and magic. The young princess had never even slept outside before; how was she to survive weeks in the wild?
She was the first out of the orb when it touched down in the Bureau's camp, stepping out to stretch her cramped limbs. A rush of cool air swept past her at that moment, and Zelda yanked her arms back close, shivering. The cold reminded her that she had left her pack in the orb, so she returned to retrieve it as the last person was exiting. She had recognized the one armed warrior when they were assigned the same pod, but had not felt particularly sociable during the trip.
"Excuse me," she said as she stepped back inside. She rummaged around in the pack until she found a warm cloak to throw around her shoulders.
"I fear I'm quite outside my element," Zelda admitted to him as she reemerged.

How could he help people without his ki? Would he be able to explore this island effectively without his flight? Would it have been better for him to focus on exploration, rescue, or combat? Which of those would best benefit from his new power set?
That was the train of thought Zelda had interrupted, the one armed man blinking in surprise. He recognized her from the pod, but she mostly kept to herself, so he didn't talk to her. He couldn't shake how familiar her ki felt though, even if he couldn't place it at all. However, it was her admission that drew the most attention. the words slipping out of his mouth before he could even think about them:
"Do you need help, ma'am?"
