Kaede and Erika have dressed the room up for the spookiest night of the year. It's nothing professional - lights dimmed, music playing, store-bought balloons with jack-o-lantern faces on them, paper cutouts in pumpkin and ghost shapes stuck to the wall. A "bat" is fluttering around, but if you squint, it's actually just Erika's familiar with black paper stuck to her wings. There's some kind of plastic tub in the corner full of water and...apples? Is it supposed to be bobbing for apples? All in all, it has some kind of DIY charm to it all.

Of course, everyone's actually here for the refreshments, and there's plenty of those. Some Bender specials, mostly the non-enchanted fare, but you might find a couple of the milder curses and blessings on the table. Bowls of popcorn and chips and every other genre of snack food you can scrounge up at Fantasy Costco. Candy galore. A modest assortment of Faerunian treats familiar from missions. Paper cups and plates and napkins. Soda bottles and a water pitcher and a few big bowls of punch. (One is labeled "alcoholic". Be ye ware.)

And by the way, costumes really are mandatory. There's a sign out front saying so. If you came unprepared, there's a bin of costume components outside to choose from, capes and headbands and masks and whatnot, but they might not coordinate well. If you think you're getting in without making an effort, Kaede and Erika (themselves dressed in bargain bin warlock and bard kit, respectively) are ready and waiting to chase you down and apply whatever degree of force or Sleep they need to correct the issue, with costume accessories and water-resistant face paint in hand.


About two hours into things, the two get everyone's attention and move the party outside to the Quad. Out there they've got a campfire going, picnic blankets spread out for sitting on, ingredients for s'mores laid out, and...pumpkins! And tools for carving or painting them. A sign out by the campfire announces a contest for the best decorated pumpkins, but nobody ever comes along to apply judging standards, so everyone's just free to show off their creation.

Things wind down a little after midnight. You can head on home...or just sleep out here, between blankets under the stars. It's that cozy kind of night.]

For the record, Alex assumes the sheet's purpose is as it appears to be, blanket, and the armor is the outfit. ]

Like... When did this become the new normal, ya know? [ He can answer that, but. A swig of beer. ] Shooting magic from my fingers and thinkin' "oh, better check the sales at the shop run by that lizard-guy in town." Like... What?

Okay, that part, I haven't been here long enough to get hella existential about yet, but I can totally feel that. Trust me, I was wondering about my life waaay before I got here, too.

But magic? The fuck's up with that, right?

Can you throw any around? Magic, I mean. I got... [ A black and purple ball of energy forms in the hand not holding the beer, and then he swiftly snuffs it out. ] And all kinds of nasty stuff. Still not used to it.

Oh yeah, I've got some stuff. Like, some basic stuff? It's all weird to me, but fire and thunder and shit all seems pretty normal-y even though I'm still getting the hang of all of it.

Fire and thunder... That mean you're a wizard? Or a...sorcerer? I can never keep the difference between those straight.

Sorcerer, that's the one. I don't, uh. Entirely get the difference, either? I think it's that wizards are nerds who have to study magic and sorcerers are just too cool and already do magic without studying.

...Not sure how accurate that is, but uh, you should...probably still read about the magic you've got, you know...just to be safe...

I didn't have to do any booklearning to suddenly have magical powers. And I'm pretty sure sorcerers don't have to to keep learning more. I mean, I'm pretty new still? But I definitely read my pamphlet.

I mean... Okay, the pamphlet's a good start. But I'm sure there's some things it'd be a good idea to read up on. Like, one or two.

Like...? Like, what, how to live on a terraformed enclosed moonbase? You want me to ask a stock broker what the value of a gold dubloon or whatever is in some town down there? How to say 'where's the bathroom' in dragon?

I mean, like...like the way this place works, you know? The...cities and history and deities and shit. You know, we're supposed to act like we've lived here, when we go down, no one but the Bureau knows about... [ vague gesture- ] All this. Like how to be a person from Faerun.

The costume is off. [He tugs the sheet.] Spooky ghost is retired for the mo--oh. You mean my-- [A vague motion to all of himself.]

You mean that. The armor. Nnnnoooo can do, that's kind of my body there.

[ Alex is a little too intoxicated for this. Or maybe that's helping. ]

Yep! All metal pieces and wires and bullshit under here. Lemmie tell ya, it made drinking the ink juice a real time.

Far as the juicy juice goes, I just uhhhh popped off my helmet and poured that shit in and hoped I wouldn't short out on day one?
