Sayori watches Alex through a screen in an infinite white room, her neck bare but feeling the phantom ache of the noose, a memory and an inevitability. Her whole body feels numb, pins and needles in her very soul as Alex's motions at the controller are echoed in her own fingers.
When a thought finally enters her mind, it repeats, hopeful and yet hopeless. Maybe it will be different this time. Maybe it will be different this time. Maybe--
Maybe it will be--
Time reverses. The room warps around her, dissolving, and she's falling and falling and falling--
And the rope, the end, the inevitable, is around her neck again, and she thrashes twice as hard, overtaken with the profound fear that she'll be caught in this loop forever.
But this time, there's Alex's voice. Her eyes flicker to him, pleading. The idea of staying still is impossible with the primal fear of death in her veins, but she tries, holds tight to the rope and goes still save for a violent tremor that shakes her whole tiny body.
And then she falls into Alex's arms, gasping and coughing up all the pain in her chest. She can only squeeze her watering eyes shut and nod through her lurching, desperate breaths.]
