He's sure missing something. He can catch parts of it --- Maya's increasingly strained breathing coming from various parts of the cavern, like she's disappearing and reappearing --- the sound of magical blasts and the basilisk screaming as if Maya were able to land a hit. At one point, there's a sound like something soft hitting the cavern hard --- followed by a short scream that is undeniably Maya. Then, there's the unmistakable, unpleasant noise of something piercing flesh --- and the basilisk screams.
"Bring! Him! Back!"
He can tell that she's close to him now, in between him and it, and there's the sound of magic crackling through her fingertips again and something (blood) dripping on the ground. The creature keeps screaming -- slamming into the walls, causing small bits of the ceiling to hit the ground -- and the inhuman noises increase in volume and proximity. It's rampaging.
She lets whatever magic she was using turn loose -- the creature hits the ground hard, then slowly, resentfully, burrows back underground and disappears. For the moment.
Maya's left in front of McCree, her breathing heavy and pained and panicked.
"I'll.... I'll get you out of this somehow, I swear." If he could feel anything, he'd know, that at this moment, she was clutching at his stone hand. "Just hold on."
