If there's a bug buzzing around or something Bread wants to investigate, he is most definitely going to be investigating it. Wash's experience here is probably akin to trying to herd a giant cat. Because that's what it is.
In any case, if Wash manages to stick around for the journey, Bread will happily scoot himself over to a spot on the mountain that he's clearly marked for himself. It's covered with claw marks that could only belong to him — or a direbear, anyway.
