A goblin with an unbearable sweet tooth takes a shine to the treat, and in his haste to get his grubby mitts on a pastry, he offers up the most valuable thing in his possession: A pair of very large gardening shears.
Yeah ... yeah, goblins are kind of morons. But it does have its uses! They're not enchanted with magic or anything, but should Sans decide to take them, he'll find that they're unusually sharp and durable. They most definitely have their application here on Maru, either as a tool or as a weapon.
Anyway, Sans will find that the piece of mountain in his hand lights up, and folds into dark brown ashes, not at all unlike burning a piece of paper. Because that's exactly what it is. It's hard to say from this vantage point if the entire mountain is actually made of paper, but that would certainly explain why the goblins are so hesitant to try climbing it.
