It was a seaside city, where the relic holder was a pirate lord and trying to take over, basically. The relic was a sword that forced people to be part of its hivemind... so they were very organized.

Even aside from the pirates and corrupt city guard, the sea itself was dangerous. Monsters and magic kind of danger. We had more than a few deaths, some serious injuries, one of us was taken by the relic, and there was an explosion some of us survived only thanks to divine intervention.
