[Akechi ticks off his fingers.] The first target, Kamoshida, was a teacher at the school that Akira, Ryuji, Ann and Makoto all attended. Akira transferred to that school right before the incident. But fine, we can allow for outcasts hanging out together, given that two of them had records. [Ah, right.] I must note I mean the first three, by the way. Makoto wasn't involved at the time... Naturally, given the way Kamoshida acted, we opened an internal investigation but the director mostly handled that at the time. It was... irritating but just a blip.

But the next target, Madarame, was unrelated to them. They really blundered into that. Yusuke was his pupil and joined at that time. I must note here that Madarame was an acclaimed artist. Yusuke went to an entirely different school, a more gifted one. And yet they started to meet together and be seen together all the time after Madarame's confession.

Makoto was investigating under the direction of the principal of the school and he in turn was under the director that I worked for. Of course we knew about it and were monitoring the situation, so when Makoto found them, it might as well have been some sort of flashing sign. I even told them off once for looking so suspicious and I think they didn't even realise I was letting them know I knew.
