On the wellspring front, there is not! However, the little critter watching them is entirely amenable to ear skritches, and meeps at Wash — it sort of sounds like he's saying "Mou!" over and over again.
Which, is close enough to a meow to be able to understand Athena. The creature, who doesn't exactly reveal his name, but will also answer to Mou, just straight up relays more information about himself: he is a familiar like Athena, ordered to remain here so that the wizard he is tied to can keep an eye on the whispers around Thay.
Mou, quite frankly, is all too willing to kick said wizard's face in if he ever gets a chance. It's bad enough that he's stuck here, reliving the same seven hours who knows how many times at this point! But with his master banished to who knows where, he has no way of actually truly escaping.
In any case, there's a good reason why Wash found his way here — that was by his master's design, as kickable a face as he has. Wash needs to pass on the information about the wellspring to the others. It is, in fact, located in Thay — and someone very connected to the town is attempting to destroy it. They can't let that happen, lest Faerun loses the gift of magic entirely.
That's all the information Mou can give. But, he does at least seem satisfied that his role in this grand design is fulfilled.
