The carving is about the size of a regular hourglass, so there's nothing stopping him from yoinking it, provided he has somewhere he can discreetly store it. It's just a carving, however! Nothing particularly interesting happens when Wash flips it over, or even uses Detect Magic on it.
The rest of the room, however.
Detect Magic leads him to a desk drawer in the corner of the room — it takes a little jostling to get it open, and to get the secret compartment inside open, but Wash will eventually turn up a wand. Before he can fiddle with it too much, however, he's suddenly accosted by a strange creature.
It's very small and catlike, with mountains of soft, silvery curls of fur. It looks like it would have a mean roundhouse kick if it tried, too. With a tiny squeak, it snatches the wand into its mouth and pops to the floor, broadcasting the results of the wand's spell into the both of their minds:
The Wellspring of Magic: Believed to be located in the wizarding town of Thay, the wellspring is the source of all magic in Faerun. Approach with extreme caution — and should it come to blows, protect it with your lives.
A few quick notes:
- Wash will be getting the wand back, but he can use it only three times, and only once per mission or Interlude. Please let us know when you decide to use it, and what you decide to ask about! - The creature, no matter how many times you try to coax it out of the room, will not leave. It appears to be magically bound to the room. It does like ear scritches and apples, though.
